Volunteering is the cornerstone of A Place To Belong. Members who have attended the club for more than 30 days are encouraged to volunteer, keeping the club open and providing cleaning and janitorial services. They teach classes when they have a specific skill and paint or do repairs based upon their skill set.
This gives them the opportunity to build job skills and self-esteem. We depend largely on community volunteers for transporting members to and from the club as well as offering a vast array of talents and skills that our limited staff cannot provide. In addition to volunteering at A Place To Belong, member volunteers also help at the Mobile Food Drops with the United Way of OTC, and Meals by Wheels, a community service in Fergus Falls. Last year our volunteers logged over 2500 hours, saving the agency almost $25,000 if we paid employees to do the same work!
